Youth Foundation partners with Gateshead schools for new anti-abuse curriculum
A six-school pilot launches this term across Gateshead, covering consent, forced-marriage red flags, and how to seek help.
Youth Foundation today announced a pilot partnership with six secondary schools across Gateshead and the wider North East England region. The programme will deliver age-appropriate sessions on consent, recognising forced-marriage pressure, and safely seeking help.
The sessions will run fortnightly for Years 9–11 across the summer term, with an evaluation published in autumn 2026. Pastoral staff will receive handover training alongside the cohort.
Teachers are often the first adult a young person in danger will speak to, the foundation's safeguarding lead said. Equipping them to handle that moment well is the single highest-leverage thing we can do.
